Letters to the Editor

A Concerned Ambazonian and fervent reader of the Independentist news writes to the editor on what he terms “weakening the Revolution”

WEAKENING THE REVOLUTION

Dear Editor,

Thank you for all the truth and clarity the world is getting each passing day through your publications.

The war of aggression declared and executed by La Republique du Cameroun on the then people of the Southern Cameroons(The Federal Republic of Ambazonia) is now well known throughout the world. The historicity, the legal and the cultural background of the Federal Republic of Ambazonia and the conflict itself are now evident to everyone.

The scale of the destruction caused by the aggression is making some of your headlines. Wanton destruction in both human life and material goes on every day since 2017 till date.

It is as well true and clear that the killings, the incarcerations, the forced disappearances, the exiles, the burning of homes and other properties did not start with the declaration of the present aggression in November 2017.La Republique du Cameroun engaged systematically on these cruelties since 1961.

The information about the present state of the aggression is gotten on the moment through your publications. Not much information is not available. A lot of readers say you are wonderful. Truth and clarity hold you strong.

However, some in many of our communities are fast identifying a weakening in the Ambazonian Revolution. The aggressor is working hard to disconnect the home front from the diaspora. Not just from the diaspora, also from the government of Ambazonia in exile. Some communities in Ambazonia are now holding open meetings to discuss the needs of the populations.

Jakiri LGA hosted such meetings about a month ago in various localities. Elections of executive committees were carried out. Renovation of schools run by the aggressor is going on uninterrupted. New projects in some institutions far removed from military controlled areas are now going on. What is heard in such communities is, “The war is over and it is time for development. The government is now trying to take care of us.” The government referred to here is the aggressor.

The astonishing fact about this situation is that the people who carry out these deceitful projects and hold the so-called “development meetings” are the very ones who live the daily aggression with its cruelties.

How possible is it that Ambazonian should weaken the revolution in these and various ways? Something is thought not to be going right somewhere, which needs to be corrected. Many people at home think that county and LGA representatives need to do something about the situation.

There is an urgent need to review the direction of the revolution in some of the counties and LGAs of Ambazonia.

Concerned Ambazonian

Response to our fervent reader by the editor

We thank our reader for a thoughtful and heartfelt contribution on a subject that continues to concern many within the Ambazonian community both at home and in the diaspora.

There is little doubt that prolonged conflicts test not only institutions and leadership but also the endurance, patience, and resilience of ordinary people. After many years of insecurity, displacement, economic hardship, interrupted education, and uncertainty about the future, it is natural that communities will seek stability, reconstruction, and opportunities to improve daily life for their families.

The desire to rebuild schools, rehabilitate infrastructure, support local development initiatives, and address humanitarian needs should not automatically be interpreted as abandonment of political aspirations or historical grievances. Communities living closest to the realities of conflict often carry burdens that are difficult for outsiders to fully appreciate. Parents want children in classrooms. Farmers want access to their fields. Traders want functioning markets. Families want security and normalcy.

At the same time, the concerns expressed by our reader deserve careful consideration. Long struggles throughout history have demonstrated that maintaining communication, trust, and shared purpose between populations at home, diaspora communities, and political leadership abroad is essential for sustaining any political movement over time. When communication weakens, misunderstandings emerge. When engagement declines, perceptions of distance and disconnection can grow.

The challenge facing any long-duration movement is therefore not simply one of resistance but one of relevance. Communities must continue to feel heard, represented, and connected to decision-making processes affecting their futures. Political aspirations and community development should not necessarily be viewed as competing objectives. Indeed, successful movements often find ways to pursue both simultaneously.

The observations regarding local meetings, community initiatives, and development projects may therefore be interpreted in different ways. Some may view them as signs of fatigue or accommodation. Others may view them as evidence of communities adapting pragmatically to difficult realities while continuing to hold diverse political views regarding the future.

History suggests that political movements are strengthened not by demanding uniformity of opinion but by maintaining dialogue, listening carefully to changing circumstances, and remaining responsive to the needs of the populations they seek to represent.

The reader’s suggestion that county and local representatives should engage more actively with communities is therefore worthy of consideration. Effective leadership requires continuous presence, communication, consultation, and accountability. Communities facing extraordinary challenges deserve regular engagement from all institutions and leaders who claim to speak on their behalf.

Ultimately, the strength of any movement lies not merely in its political objectives but in its ability to remain connected to the everyday realities of its people.

The conversation raised by this letter is therefore an important one. It deserves discussion. It deserves reflection. And above all, it deserves to be approached with wisdom, patience, and respect for the sacrifices being made by ordinary families on all sides of this difficult chapter of our history.
