The Ambazonian Government in Exile Calls on the International Community to Address Persistent War Crimes in Njavnyuy, Kumbo, Bui Division

The Government of the Federal Republic of Ambazonia in exile is drawing urgent international attention to the ongoing and heinous war crimes being committed against civilians in the locality of Njavnyuy, within Kumbo, Bui Division, in the conflict-ridden North West Region of Cameroon.

Njavnyuy is known to host a base of Cameroon’s elite military unit—the Bataillon d’Intervention Rapide (BIR). Residents of this neighbourhood are reportedly subjected to repeated and egregious violations, including arbitrary arrests, torture, molestation, and sexual violence at the hands of these state forces.

In a communiqué released by the Ambazonian Government in Exile—intercepted by independentist sources—a deeply disturbing incident was recounted, wherein a ten-year-old girl (name withheld for her protection) was gang-raped by members of the BIR.

This incident, the release notes, is not an isolated case. Women and girls in Njavnyuy, as well as in many other parts of the conflict zone, are consistently exposed to abductions, rape, and other forms of sexual violence, reportedly used as a weapon of war in retaliation against pro-independence sentiments.

Testimonies from survivors paint a harrowing picture of a locality transformed into a zone of sexual terror, where women and children are abducted and violated under the guise of military operations aimed at silencing the independence movement.

Through this official statement, the Government of the Federal Republic of Ambazonia in exile:

Condemns these atrocities as crimes against humanity, and squarely holds the regime of 93-year-old President Paul Biya and the Cameroon military establishment accountable.

Calls upon the United Nations and the African Union to publicly denounce the sexual war crimes perpetrated by the Government of Cameroon and to deploy independent fact-finding missions to investigate and report on the ground realities.

Urges international human rights organisations to thoroughly investigate, document, and provide both advocacy and support to the victims of these atrocities.

Appeals to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to open investigations into these crimes and issue indictments against military and political actors responsible.

Encourages governments of conscience around the world to impose targeted sanctions on the perpetrators and provide humanitarian assistance to the victims.

The Ambazonian Government in Exile reiterates its unwavering commitment to the defence of the dignity, safety, and fundamental human rights of its people, and it demands immediate international intervention to put an end to these inhumane practices.
