Letters to the Editor

Comrade Agbor Derrec, from Oslo Norway, writes to the editor of The Independentistnews in appreciation to the article “why Ambazonia is a war of Independence not a war of liberation.

He writes: It was a Good lecture. Inspiring and edifying. However, some pertinent questions need to be addressed to get a clear view of our predicaments.

Was Ambazonia a colony of Britain seeking for independence or was she a category B UN Trust Territory seeking for the termination of the Trusteeship agreement between the UN as her direct caretaker and Great Britain as a 3rd party sub contracted to lead her to SOVEREIGNTY?

The answer to this question is important as it will guide our understanding of what our real problem is. History has proven that Ambazonia did not need to go through any decolonisation process like Nigeria, Ghana, Gabon which were colonies of Britain and France respectively.

Therefore, decolonisation did not apply to Trust territories which were under Trusteeship although the UNGA contracted its decolonisation Committee to make reports on the political, economic and social situations in those territories.

Note that they were not contracted to decolonise the territories. This same rule applied to Britain which did not have the power to decolonise or grant independence to. Ambazonia as she did to Nigeria because AMBAZONIA WAS NOT ONE OF HER COLONIES.

The competent body to grant Ambazonia independence is the UNGA. The only thing the UN needed to do was to TERMINATE HER TRUSTEESHIP AGREEMENT WITH BRITAIN for Ambazonia to be independent since she, in 1954 ( Withdrew from Nigeria) and in December 1958 (Created Foncha’s Government), that had already fulfilled UN obligations spelled out in Article 76B of the UN Charter.

Was independence granted? Yes it was.

How? Trusteeship over Ambazonia was terminated. Nevertheless, here are some flaws that the UNGA did,

1) Allow Britain to divide the trust territory into 2 parts: Southern Cameroons and Northern Cameroons. This was a gruesome violation of the Trusteeship agreement.

2) The UN did not respect the ongoing democracy in Ambazonia.

3) She based her decision on the results of the Plebiscite which was unconstitutional. A Referendum strictly limited to only the indigenous people of Ambazonia is needed today to redress this error.

4) No proper follow up was made to ensure that the people got their rights during trusteeship period and after it was terminated. This negligence gave room for LRC to annex Ambazonia.

Stay blessed
