For the first time in three years since the war in Ukrain started, delegations from the waring factions have started face to face talks in the Turkish capital Instandbul, in the the presence of a delegation from the US government headed by the US secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The talks that started this morning follow a failed appointment from the Kremlin last monday in which Russia’s President Vlademir Putin was expected to meet Ukrainian president Zelensky in the same venue but rather sent a delegation that was rather considered low level, as to the stakes for the pending peace.
It is known that for the talks to have started today, it has been the results from efforts by US President Donald Trump who said ” I have struggled to get this talks that have finally started today”
The ongoing talks are are taking place in the absence of President Putin of Russia, Zelensky of Ukrainian and US President Donald Trump, Meanwhile President Zelensky of Ukrain says the Russians have sent a delegation that simply are not able to make decisions.
President Donald Trump, says he believes there still have to be direct talks between himself and President Putin for a way forwatds but that it was imperative for today’s meeting to have started.
Two meetings are expected to hold today, the first that is bringing together the delegation from Ukrain, the United states and Turkey, and a second that will see the delegations from Russia Ukraine with Turky mediating
As for the accessment of where things stand as at now, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says ” We do not have high expectations as to what will happen, and frankly I think it is abundantly clear that the only way we gonna have a break through here is, between President Donald Trump and President Vlademir Putin”
Critics says it is a weakness on the side of Donald Trump, as a reward to Putin for being obsolate but the Kremlin says, talks like that between Trump and Putin cannot be underestimated.
