Gabones President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema takes oat of office….

Marking the end of a Military transition, Gabons, newly elected Prisdent Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema officially took office Saturday May 3rd 2025

In a ground breaking ocassion at the Angondjé stadium in Libreville, thousands of Gabonese gathered to cheer their newly elected president Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema as he officially took the oath of office, marking the end of an unprecedented transition and opening the way for a new Republic.

Among the distinguished guests, present at this histroric occasion, was Central African Republic President Faustin-Archange Touadéra who praised the event, as a good example for Africa.

Faustin-Archange Touadéra, President of the Central African Republic said, Gabonese have come out to celebrate for their restored stability. “After 18 months of transition, Gabon is reconnecting with democracy and, with hope, moving forward towards happiness,” he decleared.

He praised the progress made since August 30, 2023, the date Ali Bongo Ondimba’s regime, was overthrown.

The occasion, marked in strong testimony, as a continental validation of Gabons process of rebuilding. Constitutional transition, elections seen to be free fair and peaceful, and a commitment to more inclusive governance: Gabon now seems to have regained some credibility among her peers.

In his solemn oath to the nation, President Oligui Nguema promised to work for “justice, harmony, and the interests of the Gabonese people.”

The international community, including the African Development Bank, CEMAC, and several diplomatic missions, also praised the revival of the democratic process.

For many, Gabon now embodies a democratic laboratory where efforts are underway to reconcile political rupture with institutional stability

But while the momentum is welcomed, expectations remain high as social justice, economic revival, fight against corruption, and restoration of the rule of law are awaited.

While the International Day of the Press Freedom was celebrated on the same May 3, the inauguration ceremony was an occasion to recall the immense challenges awaiting the elected president.
