September 22, 2017, is more than a date in history. It is a symbol of our collective courage, the spirit of resistance, and the birth of a renewed consciousness of freedom. It marks the moment Southern Cameroons declared to the world that our struggle is just, our cause is legitimate, and our people are determined.
Issued by the Government of Southern Cameroons (Ambazonia) in Exile
On this day, September 22, we honor the courage, unity, and sacrifice of the people of Southern Cameroons who, in 2017, rose as one to demand dignity, freedom, and the restoration of their rights.
On September 22, 2017, hundreds of thousands of Southern Cameroonians filled the streets of Buea, Bamenda, Kumba, Mamfe, and across our land—waving peace plants, carrying nothing but their voices, and armed only with the will to be free. They marched peacefully, affirming their identity, demanding justice, and rejecting decades of marginalization and forced assimilation by the Republic of Cameroun.
That day became known as the Peace Plant Revolution. It was the day fear was broken. Our mothers, fathers, youth, and elders showed the world that Southern Cameroonians are a people united in their quest for self-determination. Despite brutal repression, live bullets, and state terror, our people stood tall and sent an unshakable message: we are not slaves, and our future belongs to us.
September 22, 2017, is more than a date in history. It is a symbol of our collective courage, the spirit of resistance, and the birth of a renewed consciousness of freedom. It marks the moment Southern Cameroons declared to the world that our struggle is just, our cause is legitimate, and our people are determined.
Today, as we commemorate this historic day, we pay tribute to those who gave their lives, to those who were wounded, and to those who remain unjustly detained for daring to raise a peace plant in defiance of tyranny. Their sacrifice shall never be forgotten.
We call upon the international community to remember that the struggle of Southern Cameroons is rooted in peace, justice, and self-determination. The Peace Plant Revolution of September 22, 2017, was not an act of war but an act of hope. The violent response of the Cameroun government remains a stain on its conscience and a reminder of why trust cannot be placed in empty promises from Yaoundé.
To our people at home and in the diaspora: remain steadfast, remain united, and remain unafraid. The Peace Plant Revolution continues in every heart that refuses to surrender to injustice. September 22 will forever remind us that freedom is not given—it is claimed.
Long live the spirit of September 22.
Long live Southern Cameroons, Ambazonia.
