Letters to the Editor

Readers of the Independentist news exchange views, over Barriter Felix Abgor Balla’s call for Ambazonians to Register and vote in LRC elections.

Dr. Tanyi Tanyi, challenges Uchiba Nelson acusing him for attacking Barrister Abgor Balla wrongfully.

Dr.Tanyi Tanyi writes

Uchiba Achonduh Nelson there is no point in you spreading lies and unrealistic propaganda by trying to tarnish the image of Barrister Agbor Balla.  Some of you sit in the USA and sponsor terrorism by financial terrorist groups to kidnap fellow southern Cameroonians or Anglophones. The pain you have inflicted on the people of southern Cameroon is enormous. You deny our kids and our future generations’ education which is a basic human right. Ambazonia sponsors of kidnapping, my question to you is are your kids not going to school abroad?.

Have you ever condemned the terrorist acts committed by your group on unarmed civilians?

Barrister Agbor Balla alone has accomplished more in advocating for the plight of southern Cameroonians than your money-minded terrorist groups that extort their people. Agbor Balla alone appeared before the Canadian parliament, the UN human rights council, and many other International bodies to advocate for the rights of Anglophone Cameroonians.

You cannot force people to abide by your ideology. Barrister Balla is an adult and should be able to choose his side in the debate. Also, people’s positions can evolve. Democracy is a
Choice.

Have you forgotten so soon that some of you southern Cameroonians abroad were spreading false narratives that Barrister Agbor Balla was compromised?. He remains a man of integrity, wisdom, and knowledge.

I can authoritatively say that Barrister Agbor Nkongho is one of the strongest human rights defenders and advocates of Anglophone Cameroon rights.

Uchiba Achonduh Nelson, please stop and desist from spreading false information about my Elder brother Barrister Agbor Balla, otherwise I will personally advise Balla to initiate legal proceedings against you.

I hope you get this clearly.

Uchiba Achonduh Nelson reacts to the accusation.

REBUTTAL:

Setting the Record Straight on Agbor Balla and the Ambazonian Struggle

It is unfortunate—but not surprising—that defenders of the status quo continue to weaponize emotional rhetoric and misinformation to shield questionable actors like Barrister Agbor Balla from legitimate scrutiny. This response aims to dispel the distortions and refocus the conversation on truth, accountability, and justice.

1. On “Spreading Lies and Propaganda”

Calling well-documented criticism of Agbor Balla “propaganda” is intellectually dishonest. Balla’s actions have consistently raised serious concerns among Southern Cameroonians. From undermining the Ambazonian cause by pushing for superficial reforms within a genocidal system, to discrediting the voices of victims, he has not only chosen a side, but actively legitimized the colonial regime that has killed, raped, and burned our people. That is not neutrality; it is complicity.

2. On Accusations of “Terrorism”

The claim that Southern Cameroonians in the diaspora “sponsor terrorism” is not only baseless, it is a talking point lifted directly from the propaganda playbook of Yaoundé. The resistance movement in Ambazonia emerged only after peaceful protests were met with bullets, arrests, torture, and massacres—many documented by international human rights organizations. The right to self-defense and liberation from colonial occupation is enshrined in international law, including UN General Assembly Res. 1514.

To label every act of resistance as terrorism while ignoring the systemic terror inflicted by the Biya regime—including airstrikes, village burnings, and targeted assassinations—is an insult to thousands of innocent victims, including women and children.

3. On Education and Schools

Let us be clear: It was not Ambazonian fighters who shut down education in Southern Cameroons. It was the colonial regime that militarized campuses, turned classrooms into barracks, and used schools to indoctrinate rather than liberate. The resistance called for a complete decolonization of the curriculum—a legitimate political stance—not the denial of education. Furthermore, it is hypocritical to question the schooling of diaspora children while failing to demand justice for students shot or abducted by colonial forces.

4. On Agbor Balla’s “Achievements”

Yes, Agbor Balla has made international appearances—but what has been the outcome? Has he advocated for self-determination? Has he called out the genocide against Ambazonians? Or has he consistently pushed the “federalism” agenda, which dilutes the legitimate independence claim into a plea for crumbs from a brutal oppressor?

Let us not mistake visibility for effectiveness, nor eloquence for loyalty to the cause. Appearing before international bodies while vilifying Ambazonian activists and apologizing for the regime’s crimes is not advocacy; it is political sanitization.

5. On Choice and Democracy

Democracy is indeed about choice—but collaborating with a regime that has outlawed political opposition, rigged elections, and committed crimes against humanity is not a neutral “choice.” It is a betrayal. Ambazonians reserve the right to criticize those who betray their aspirations, especially when they try to position themselves as leaders while undermining the sovereignty movement from within.

6. On Integrity and Compromise

Many Ambazonians remember when Barrister Balla distanced himself from the independence agenda after his release from prison—reportedly in a deal brokered by the same regime that jailed and tortured him. Since then, his actions have favored appeasement, not justice. To question his integrity is not defamation—it is a civic duty in any liberation movement where the price of silence is continued subjugation.

Final Word
This struggle is not about personalities—it is about a people’s right to live free from occupation, assimilation, and annihilation. Let us not be distracted by messengers of moderation who mask cowardice as wisdom and betrayal as dialogue. History is watching—and it will remember who stood with the people, and who stood with the oppressors.

Ambazonia is not for sale. And our children’s future will not be mortgaged for the career ambitions of those who’ve forgotten why we started this journey
