Prospects for Kremlin and Kiev to begin peace negotiations to end war, says US President Donald Trump.
After a two hours telephone discussion with Vlademir Putin of Russia today monday May 19th 2025, US President Donald Trump has announced that peace talks to end the war in Ukrain are to begin immidiately.
On a social media post, Donald Trump says ” Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations for a cease fire and more importantly an end to the war”
Donald Trump’s confidence is so telling, as he further clarifies that the tone and spirit of the conversation with President Putin of Russia was
excellent.
“The conditions for the end of war will be negotiate by the two parties as they know some details of the negotiations that no one else knows” says Donald Trump
Meanwhile Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warns that the US should not distance itself from talks as he still holds reservations from Putins on and off behaviour.
“Today suggests there’ll be even more talks about talks before any pauses in fighting”, writes BBC’s correspondent in Ukraine James Waterhouse
The Russian leader Vlademir Putin has concord and says he is prepared for “compromises” but without further details with Russian media Reporting that the Kremlin’s foreign policy aide says there has not been any timeline set for talks to begin.
