Letter to the Editor
Sir/Madam,
On behalf of the people of Ambazonia, I wish to bring to the attention of the international community a historic fact and a present reality. On October 1, 1961, the people of the former British Southern Cameroons — today known as Ambazonia — achieved independence as a sovereign nation, distinct and separate from La République du Cameroun, which had earlier attained independence in 1960.
Our sovereignty was affirmed when the United Nations Trusteeship formally ended. However, subsequent political manipulation and coercive annexation deprived our people of the full exercise of that independence. Today, Ambazonia is actively restructuring and asserting her nationhood, with renewed vigor and clarity.
Our National Framework
Ambazonia is organized into three governance zones — Savannah, Midland, and Atlantic — which together comprise thirteen counties and sixty-one local government areas (LGAs). These structures ensure grassroots representation, local coordination, and a strong national framework.

Savannah Zone: Donga-Mantung, Boyo, Bui, Ngoketunjia, Menchum
Midland Zone: Mezam, Manyu, Momo, Lebialem
Atlantic Zone: Fako, Kupe-Muanenguba, Meme, Ndian
Each county and LGA operates with leadership structures that mobilize resources, coordinate community affairs, and strengthen governance under our national institutions.
Our Government in Exile
Today, Ambazonia has a functioning Government in Exile, under the leadership of President Samuel Ikome Sako.
This government oversees national strategy, while county and LGA structures serve as the backbone of administration, representation, and mobilization both at home and abroad.
A Call to Action
As we mark October 1st, Ambazonia’s Independence Day, we issue this call:
To Ambazonians worldwide — connect with your respective LGAs and contribute to the liberation, reconstruction, and development of our homeland.
To the international community — recognize Ambazonia’s legitimate right to self-determination, and support our people’s pursuit of justice, peace, and freedom.
Ambazonia is free. Together, we shall preserve it.
Respectfully,
Dr Martin Mungwa, PhD, F.ASCE
Communications Secretary
Government of the Federal Republic of Ambazonia (in Exile)
