Eight years into the armed struggle that has claimed more than sixty thousand lives in the former British Southern Cameroons, today known as Ambazonia, there are increasing signs pointing to the eventual international recognition of the Ambazonian people as they continue their quest for self-determination.
Across the territory, the collective engagement of the population was evident in field images circulating widely on social media. As communities celebrated their Independence Day on the 1st of October, the scenes laid powerful testimony to the people’s unwavering commitment to their ultimate goal: the emergence of a new nation.
The diaspora echoed the same spirit. In the days leading up to Independence Day, committed Ambazonians advocating for total and unconditional independence joined the Government of the Federal Republic of Ambazonia (in exile) for a three-day Ambazonian Stakeholders’ Constituent Assembly in Washington, D.C. The gathering provided a moment to take stock, evaluate governance, and ensure the effective running of the revolution.
A Clearer Pathway Ahead
Participation and deliberations at the Constituent Assembly demonstrated that the state of Ambazonia has been restored and is evolving. Its institutions remain active, and its government continues to show discipline, strategic focus, and forward-looking vision.
In his Independence Day address, President Dr. Samuel Ikome Sako announced that the Constituent Assembly had adopted far-reaching resolutions, including a blueprint for negotiations grounded in justice, dignity, and self-determination. The Assembly also adopted a roadmap toward full independence, complete with first “100-day” policies and actions designed to consolidate governance and international engagement.

Dr. Sako declared with confidence that the United States remains Ambazonia’s most trusted ally, and reaffirmed that the Ambazonian government will continue to engage U.S. institutions to help facilitate a peaceful and lasting solution to the ongoing war.
He further announced the establishment of the Southern Cameroons/Ambazonia Diplomatic Commission, a structure dedicated to preparing and equipping the projected delegation for dialogue and negotiations. Civil society experts and other competent patriots with clean records are expected to be co-opted into this structure in due course.
In conclusion, Dr. Sako reminded the international community that Ambazonia has not called for elections, and any such activity on Ambazonian territory constitutes a provocation that will be met with resistance. He declared an official lockdown of Ambazonian territory from October 2nd to 14th, 2025.
